November!!

I can't believe it is November already. Time is absolutely flying by, and the holiday's are right around the corner.
Our last two Chef's of the week did a fantastic job making us a healthy snack!
In honor of Halloween Austin made great spiders. His spider snack ingredients were:

  • Ritz crackers (Town House would work too)
  • Peanut Butter
  • small pretzel sticks
  • Raisins
Spread the peanut butter on the cracker, break 4 pretzel sticks in half and place them on each side of the cracker, and place 2 raisins on top for the eyes. You have just created a healthy spider snack :o)

Lauren used apples to make apple sandwiches. Her ingredients were:

  • Apples (any color or kind)
  • Peanut Butter
  • Granola
Take the core out of the apples and cut the apples into flat sections. Spread the peanut butter onto a section and sprinkle granola onto the peanut butter. Place another apple section on top to create the apple sandwich!
Both snacks were healthy and delicious!

In math we have started multiplication. PLEASE practice and play some of the math games on this site. The more you practice the faster you will become with the facts!

End of the First Quarter!

Today marks the end of the first quarter! Time is flying by and we are really working hard.
Next week we will begin to study multiplication and division. PLEASE practice multiplication, students are really struggling with their multiplication facts. I have web sites linked on this page that will give extra practice. You can also make your own flash cards to practice with at home.
Chef of the week has been a big success thus far. Last week Bella presented and cooked up her rice cake treats. She made veggie treats and fruit treats:

The veggie treats consist of:

  • Ranch flavored snack sized rice cakes
  • Veggie flavored cream cheese
  • Cucumbers

Simply spread the veggie flavored cream cheese on a rice cake and place the cucumbers on top. Any vegetables can be used.

The Fruit treats consist of:

  • Fruit/berry flavored snack sized rice cakes
  • Berry flavored cream cheese
  • Strawberries

Simply spread the berry flavored cream cheese on the rice cake and place the strawberry on top. Any fruit can be used.

Today Rachel presented and cooked up her peanut butter and jelly pizza. You need:

  • peanut butter (creamy of crunchy)
  • 1 whole pita bread (medium size)
  • Toppings-jelly, raisins, apples, sliced bananas, cheerios, peanuts, etc.
Spread the peanut butter (sauce) on the pita bread. Then top the pizza with your toppings and slice the pizza into wedges.

We have really enjoyed "Chef of the week" and we are booked up each Friday up until March. If you're still interested, you can still sign up. I place reminders on each Friday folder, so keep a look out!!!

October!

Can you believe it's October already?! We continue to stay busy and working very hard. We will continue to read and finish Frindle and Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing in class this week. We have started our addition and subtraction unit in Math. Please practice and review daily. I have found many students are struggling with this concept, especially regrouping.
Chef of the week has been a huge success! We are still taking sign-ups for those that are interested, and feel free to sign up again later in the year. We have people signed up until the month of February.
Evelyn was our first student chef of the week and she made "Energy Balls" for us. Below I have listed the ingredients and directions for this delicious treat.
        Energy Balls:
            1 cup Oats
1/2 cup Chocolate chips (or white morsels)
            1 Tablespoon Flax seed
            1 shake of Cinnamon
            1 teaspoon of Vanilla
            1 teaspoon of honey
            1 cup of Peanut Butter
Mix with a spoon and roll into balls. Using plastic gloves is helpful!
    Eat and enjoy!
